LEBANON - A Marion County man took his own life Monday after he forced himself into a residence, fired several shots and detonated an explosive, state police said.
Charles K. Lanham, 26, of Lebanon, shot himself once in the head with a large caliber handgun, according to a report by Trooper Donnie Moses. He was pronounced dead a short time later at Spring View Hospital by the Marion County coroner.
The shooting took place after state police and officers with the Marion County Sheriff's Department responded to a complaint on Ky. 55, north of here, early Monday.
Lanham forcefully enter-ed the house occupied by 21-year-old Margaret L. Tungate and 22-year-old William R. Rakes Jr., police said. Armed with a handgun, Lanham fired several times at the occupants inside the house. He assaulted Tungate and Rakes and detonated a homemade explosive device, causing a small fire.
