LANCASTER - A Lancaster man out on bond on counterfeiting charges was arrested Friday on additional charges of counterfeiting after Secret Service agents uncovered 75 $100 bills with identical serial numbers at his residence.
Benji A. Stout, 24, of Lot 35, Zanes Trace, is being charged with 75 counts of first-degree possession of a forged instrument, third-degree assault of a police officer and first-degree escape.
Stout was arrested for a second time after police say he gave an informant three false bills in Garrard County. The serial number on each of the bills was identical to the number on counterfeit currency seized from Stout during his July arrest in Lexington, from which he was out on bail.
In July, Stout was arrested by Lexington police for selling fake currency at the White Castle on Reynolds Road. Police report that 10 counterfeit $100 bills were purchased for $200 in genuine currency. At that time, Stout told the informant, who later identified his photo, that he had $80,000 in counterfeit cash.
