Garrard wins

September 01, 2004

Boyle County's girls opened their district schedule in much the same way they had played their other two games: by easily beating their opponent.

The Rebels (3-0) outscored Taylor County 8-0 Tuesday, including four goals by sophomore Sarah Hall. Erica Adams had a goal and two assists and Leah Missik, Morgan Gagle and Meredith Jones each scored once.

Boyle has outscored its opponents 24-0.

"I felt like we played well," Boyle coach Brian Deem said. "We really possessed the ball and worked the ball within our philosophy and what we wanted to do tonight."

Boyle had 38 shots to Taylor's six.

Garrard County 8, Russell County 0 - At Russell Springs, Chelsea Denny scored four times to give the Golden Lions their first victory of the season.

Denny scored three times in the first half as Garrard (1-2) scored four times in each half.

Sara Carrier added a goal and three assists, while Abby Parsons had two goals and an assist. Freshman Chelsey Smith scored Garrard's final goal and Ashley Meadows, Alexis Anderson and Kaitlyn Poynter each had assists.

Garrard County took 27 shots to four by Russell (0-4) and sophomore goalkeeper Jordan Smith had three saves.

Garrard County 7, North Laurel 0 - At Berea, Garrard turned a 1-0 halftime lead into a blowout in the second half Tuesday in the first round of the Berea Cup.

A Cory Horn breakaway goal in the first half was all the offense either team could muster, but that all changed in the second half.

"We didn't have much communication in the first half," Garrard coach Jon Martin said. "We kind of got bunched up, and there wasn't a lot of effort. In the second half, we picked up the pace and started moving the ball well."

Jacob Denny had four goals and two assists in the second half while Horn added another goal and three assists after the break for the Golden Lions (3-0-1). Justin Christian scored Garrard's other goal.

Garrard had a 38-6 shot advantage over North Laurel (3-2) and Corey Lawwill picked up his second shutout.

Garrard takes on Middlesboro tonight in the Berea Cup.
