Writing classes offered in Lancaster

A series of classes that will explore various types of writing and writing techniques will start Sept. 21 at the Garrard Middle School library.

Beth Dotson Brown, a local columnist who has won awards for her journalistic and fiction writing, will teach the class.

Revising work to make it the best piece of writing possible will be covered. The class will discuss various markets that accept submissions and what to do to get work published.

The four-week class will meet once a week from 6:30-8 p.m. Tuesdays Sept. 21 and 28 and Oct. 5 and 12. The cost is $65. To register, call the community education program at (859) 792-8745 or Dotson Brown at 792-6272.


Driving class set for seniors

McDowell Wellness Center will host "55 Alive," a driving class for people age 55 or older from 4:30-8:30 p.m. Thursday and Sept. 17 Refreshments will be provided. The cost is $10. Individuals who complete the course will be eligible for a five-year discount on their automobile insurance.

Military support group plans reunion

'Passion' to play in Hustonville

Mel Gibson's 'The Passion of the Christ' will be shown at Green River Pentecostal Church 7 p.m. Wednesday. The movie will be shown for free.

Registration opens for Apple Fest run

Casey County High School Cross-Country Boosters will have a 5K Run/Walk 8 a.m. Sept. 25 as part of the Apple Festival. The race will start at the courthouse and loop back to end there. Registration will be $15, and includes a T-shirt. Proceeds will benefit the cross-country team.

Danville Beautification Committee - 3 p.m. Monday at city hall to discuss flowers for 2005, replanting or putting a stone on Fourth Street by the fire department, thinning trees on city property on both sides of Spears Creek at Shakertown Road, building a foot bridge to city property from Colonial Heights and downtown Christmas decorations.

Danville City Commission - 5:30 p.m. Monday at city hall to discuss cemeteries, park committee recommendations, firing range request, Fire Chief Mike Thomas' requests, alcohol ordinance, HazMat ordinance, video purchase, vehicle purchase, storm water comment, bond issue for Centre College, grant application update and a non-profit request.

Garrard County Fiscal Court - 7 p.m. Monday at the courthouse. The agenda includes Dick Brunson, William Hack, Billy Conn, Concerned Citizens of Garrard County, Colby Arnold, setting health department tax rate, approving soil conservation annual report, and adopting drug and alcohol testing policy.

Lincoln County Fiscal Court - 9 a.m. at courthouse annex in the old KU building.

Boyle County Board of Education - 7 p.m. Thursday at the Boyle County High School library.
