Garrard boys beat Marion 4-1

LANCASTER - Heath Ayres scored the go-ahead goal and Jacob Denny had a goal and two assists as the Garrard County boys defeated Marion County 4-1 Saturday night.

Ayres gave Garrard (7-1-1) the lead about 31 minutes into the game - and about three minutes after Marion (5-4) had tied the game - when he scored off an assist from Denny.

The Golden Lions added to their lead when Denny scored on a penalty kick with five minutes left and Malcolm Smith scored from the left side with one minute left.

Cory Horn gave Garrard a 1-0 lead when he scored three minutes into the game off an assist from Denny.

Garrard outshot Marion 14-7 in the first half and 13-8 in the second half.

"We got a great game by our midfield, Will Keeton and Pat Kleusener. They really controlled the play," Garrard coach Jonathan Martin said.



Marion County 2, Garrard County 1 - At Lancaster, Garrard (1-4) got only five shots in a loss to Marion (3-2).

Abby Parsons scored the Lady Lions' only goal in the 55th minute off an assist from Courtney Gilliam.

Marion got two goals from Laura Swencki in the 38th and 55th minutes, the second coming just 13 seconds before Parsons scored.

Marion had 17 shots, and Garrard goalkeeper Jordan Smith had eight saves.
