Bicycle riders from all across Kentucky, six other states and from as far away as the Virgin Islands have signed up to participate in the American Lung Association of Kentucky's 19th annual Bike Trek to Shakertown Saturday through Monday.
The trek will celebrate the association's 100th birthday. Carolyn Embry, who coordinates the bike trek, said this year's pledges to date are outpacing all previous treks. Last year, the event raised $101,00 for the health charity.
The bicycle ride will depart from Old Fort Harrod State Park between 9 and 10 a.m. Saturday. From there, cyclists will ride to Danville, with a rest stop at Perryville Battlefield State Historic Site. They will spend the night at Pioneer Playhouse in Danville, where massage therapists from Louisville School of Massage will be on hand to soothe tired muscles. Afternoon activities include movies, games and a race-walking workshop. Evening entertainment will feature live music by Lexington musicians R.L. Bandy and Logan Leet.
