As a parent with three children in the Danville school system, I would like to say that I support DHS Principal Joseph Payne regarding his decision to file a criminal complaint after being assaulted on the front steps of DHS. From reading the comments by Pearlie Baskin in Thursday's Advocate Messenger, it is quite clear that she confronted a student of DHS in an argumentative manner. This is hardly the proper way for an adult to handle any situation involving a juvenile. Did she try talking to the child's parents or going to the police? I don't know, but I do know that she should never have instigated a confrontation with a juvenile, especially on school property.
As parents, we should be thanking Mr. Payne for stepping in as he did. The same situation could have happened to any of our children and it is refreshing to know that we have a principal that will stand up for our kids' safety while they are at school.
