When residents of Danville turned out Monday afternoon at a city commission meeting to discuss the fate of Danville's two cemeteries, I was there to speak for Hilldale - the often forgotten or overlooked cemetery. The hot topic discussed was who will mow the grass. After this discussion, I had to leave due to other commitments. The next day, I read in the Advocate where residents were upset that the cemetery office had been moved - how a man had come to Bellevue from out of town to visit the grave of a relative and could not find the grave, how Mrs. Mary Stith Hamlin had called the cemetery clerk's office and gotten no answer, how two of the cemetery workers stopped mowing and helped the gentleman for two hours to locate the site. Mrs. Hamlin stated that if the cemetery office was still located at Bellevue the gentleman would have been able to have found his relatives grave much faster.
