Students at Hogsett Elementary School are pitching in to help students at Sallie Jones Elementary School in Punta Gorda, Fla., who are suffering as a result of recent hurricanes.
Hogsett students in Meagan Casey's third-grade class wrote letters of encouragement to their Florida counterparts.
"We have heard that the students in Florida are devastated," said Hogsett guidance counselor Mona Smith, "and that it would be helpful for them to know that students in other parts of the country are thinking about them."
While third-graders are writing letters of encouragement, the entire student body at Hogsett has been asked to bring any items that they are able to contribute.
The Punta Gorda school has specifically asked for items such as backpacks, lunch boxes with thermoses, copy paper, socks, shoes, money for school uniforms, and books for their library.
