Dear Editor:
On Wednesday, three talented and energetic young women from our community spent their morning at Community House on South Third Street as part of the Day of Caring sponsored by Heart of Kentucky United Way. They painted our back door; they climbed ladders to caulk our windows. They were warm and friendly to our clients and staff alike while going about their work efficiently. In short, Lisa Maples, Melanie Garrison, and Courtney Yezerski embodied the generosity and sense of responsibility that is "community spirit" at its best.
The agencies of Community House - Family Services Association, American RedCross, Habitat for Humanity, Bluegrass Domestic Violence Program - wish heartily to thank Lisa, Melanie, and Courtney, and their employers, R.R. Donnelley and Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center, for lending us their energy and goodwill. We also wish to thank Dick Byrom, Red Cross volunteer, who contributed his morning to coordinating the work at Community House. And finally, our sincere thanks to the staff of Heart of Kentucky United Way without whose commitment to the Day of Caring we would not have had the great pleasure of meeting these three fine women.
