As a fellow educator (Danville Christian Academy - not many financial benefits but lots of heavenly ones!) I certainly feel for our Kentucky teachers and the decisions they must face in the next few weeks.
However, I must ask those who are leaning toward a strike to remember back to the day you entered this profession. None of us entered for financial gain. We entered because we love children and want to make a positive impact on their future.
Teachers have fought for so many years to be looked upon and admired as professionals. We should be respected just as much, if not more than, doctors, lawyers, and CEOs. By walking out on our students, we are placing ourselves right back to where we were 20 or 30 years ago when teaching was treated as a nonprofessional occupation.
