STANFORD - A Lincoln County grand jury recently indicted eight people, including a man on charges of nearly driving over a police officer during an attempted arrest.
Ashley R. Sparks, 26, of 2980 Moores Lane, was charged with first-degree assault of an adult passenger and three counts of first-degree wanton endangerment involving a Lincoln County deputy sheriff, a state trooper and a minor passenger. Sparks also was charged with first-degree fleeing and evading police, driving under the influence of intoxicants, second offense, and first-degree criminal mischief.
Deputy Ron Luster reported that, in October of last year, Sparks drove directly at a trooper, almost striking him and Luster, as they attempted to arrest Sparks for violation of a domestic violence order. Sparks was fleeing police when he wrecked the vehicle into a concrete pillar, severely injuring his two passengers. He was reportedly intoxicated and had a 5-month-old child with him.
Bail was set at $10,000 - 10 percent cash. Luster was the grand jury witness. Arraignment will be 10 a.m. Oct. 11 in Lincoln Circuit Court.
