SALVISA - A cake contest sponsored by Salvisa Ruritan Club was a big success this year with 10 cakes submitted for judging and donated to the Ruritan Club.
Joey Jackson baked the winning youth cake, a Chocolate Italian Creme Cake. Nancy Claycomb won the adult division with her first-prize winning Italian Creme Cake. Christy Perry was second with her Cinnamon Pecan Cake and Pat Ridgway was third with her German Chocolate Cake. Frances Carstensen, Carletta Daniels, Elsley Robinson and Jan Peyton also competed in the contest and donated their cakes.
The Salvisa Ruritan Day photo contest had a record number of 94 photos with entries from Scott, Clark, Boyle and Mercer counties. Molly Gallaher's photo, "Downtown Salvisa circa 2004" won the honor of appearing on the 2006 Salvisa Ruritan Calendar.
MacKenzie Grove of Scott County had the winning youth color photo entry, and Jessica Houtz's flower photos won second and third place. Angel Jones won best youth black and white photo. In the youth category for best digitally-altered photo, Joey Jackson won first and Amanda Hopewell was second. Joel Langham of Danville won first and second in the adult color photo division, and Lori Baker of Salvisa placed third. Langham also won first in the adult digitally-altered photo division, and Kay Richards was second. Lori Baker's photo of a Little League ball player won first in the black and white "human interest" division, and Langham's photo of a house won first in the black and white "scenic division." Langham had the best photo overall.
