Central Kentucky Cancer Program in partnership with Ephraim McDowell Health Care Foundation will host a "From Surviving to Thriving" Wellness Retreat for cancer survivors Saturday at Glenworth Farm, 781 Buster Pike in Harrodsburg.
The day-long program is designed to be a learning experience in a relaxing and supportive atmosphere. The program begins with an 8 a.m. breakfast and concludes at 5 p.m. Participants are asked to pre-register by calling CKCP at (859) 239-2527.
Featured presenters are Mary Jackson, a registered nurse who specializes in oncology nursing, and Darwin Huartson, a chaplain and active volunteer for the American Cancer Society. Both are based in San Antonio, Texas. Also speaking is Dr. Clifford Kuhn, known as "The Laugh Doctor," who will present a session titled "Laughter is the Best Medicine."
Jackson is director of patient and family services at the Cancer Therapy and Research Center in San Antonio. She promotes a holistic approach to cancer care, recognizing the importance of addressing physical, financial, emotional and spiritual needs. She has a master's degree in community and health care systems and has 29 years of nursing experience in various areas, ranging from adult surgery to clinical oncology research.
