The Centre College volleyball team beat DePauw University Sunday for the first time since DePauw joined the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference in 1998.
Centre won 30-24, 30-25, 31-29 in the SCAC East Division round-robin at Sewanee, Tenn. This was also the first time DePauw had lost an East Division match.
Centre (12-4, 3-1 SCAC) didn't start the day well as it lost 27-30, 27-20, 26-30 to Rose-Hulman.
"I wish I had an explanation for the loss. I guess we were just looking ahead to DePauw," said Centre coach Stephanie Dragan.
Dragan said the Colonels "played a great match" to defeat DePauw.
"This was a big victory for us and one we had been waiting a long time for," Dragan said.
Senior Leah Ballinger had 72 assists in the two matches and also had 16 digs against DePauw. Kate Bennett had 23 kills in the two matches and had eight assists and 10 digs against DePauw. Whitney Faust had 23 kills in the two matches also. Sarah Burger had 14 kills and two blocks against Rose-Hulman and Megan McElveen had 22 digs in the win over DePauw.
