Luverne K. Deas

Luverne Estelle Kirkpatrick Deas, 81, of Stirling Drive, formerly of Tulsa, Okla., died Saturday at her home.

Born June 25, 1923, in Haskell, Okla., she was the daughter of the late Marcus A. and Effie May Cash Kirkpatrick. She attended The Presbyterian Church and was a homemaker. She was the widow of John M. Deas.

Survivors include two daughters, Kathryn Hoffman of Danville and Janice E. Deas of Naples, Fla.; a son, William T. Deas of Edmund, Okla.; a sister, Fleeta F. Grose of Sacramento, Calif.; a brother, Jack Kirkpatrick of Diamond Springs, Calif.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be private.

Memorials may go to the American Heart Association or American Diabetes Association.

Wesley H. Sims

STANFORD - Wesley H. Sims, 84, of Stanford, died Monday at his home.

Born May 25, 1920, in Mercer County, he was the son of the late Garland and Letha Poulter Sims. He was a business office manager with Kentucky Utilities in Lexington and a KU employee for 30 years. He was a member of Stanford Baptist Church, an Air Force veteran of World War II and a member of Gideons International. He was a 50-year Mason and past master, a Kentucky Colonel and a member of several local civic organizations.


Survivors include his wife, Vivian Hester Sims; three sons, H. Gerald Hester of Lexington and Jon Hester and Jim Hester, both of Standard; a foster son, Jeff King; a daughter, Terry Sims Campbell of Shelbyville; two sisters, Georgia Hoover and Anne L. Manning, both of Harrodsburg; 17 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ethel Duncan Sims.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Spurlin Funeral Home by the Rev. Max Hester. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery, Harrodsburg.

Pallbearers will be grandsons. Honorary pallbearers are members of the adult men's Sunday school class at Stanford Baptist Church.

Visitation is 5-7:30 p.m. today with a Masonic service at 7:30 p.m.

Memorials may go to Heritage Hospice and Gideons International.

Samantha Stapp

STANFORD - Samantha Stapp, 84, of Stanford, died Monday at Stanford House nursing home. She was the mother of Ronald Satterly of Saudi Arabia, formerly of Stanford. Arrangements are incomplete at Spurlin Funeral Home.

Susan Young

HARRODSBURG - Susan Young, 57, of Burgin, died today at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center. Arrangements are incomplete at Ransdell Funeral Chapel.


Ronnie L. Vaught

MORELAND - Services for Ronnie Lee Vaught, 30, of Stanford, will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at W.L. Pruitt Funeral Home by G.W. Smith. Burial will be in Hustonville Cemetery.

He died Saturday in McKinney.

Survivors include his stepgrandmother, Irene Lutterman of Hustonville.

Pallbearers will be Daniel Short, Andy Holtzclaw, Eddie Miller, Tim Brown, Mike Turpin and Jason Rice.

Visitation is 5-9 p.m. today.

Nannie White

STANFORD - Services for Nannie Estridge White, 94, of Erlanger, formerly of Stanford, are 2 p.m. today at Spurlin Funeral Home by the Rev. Brad Curry. Burial is in Buffalo Springs Cemetery.

She died Saturday.

Born Oct. 22, 1909, in Clay County, she was the daughter of the late James M. and Laura Watkins Estridge. She was a retired teacher, having taught 27 years in one-room schools in Preachersville and Walnut Flats, in Crab Orchard and in Lynch for U.S. Steel Co. She was the widow of John C. White and a member of Florence Christian Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Nancy White Wills of Florence; a brother, Dr. Ernest G. Estridge of Harrodsburg; two grandchildren; and two stepgrandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Jessie Bowling, Ronnie Gilbert, Jim Estridge, Art Freeman, John White, Roger Meek and Tom Blankenship.

Honorary pallbearers are Homer Hoskins, Bill Norman, Charles Hackley, Jimmy Howard and Paul Playforth.

Memorials may go to Stanford Christian Church and Lincoln County Educational Fund.
