LIBERTY - A wild horse chase that started during the Casey County Apple Festival parade last week led police officers through the crowded downtown section onto Wallace Wilkinson Boulevard, and across Green River before it ended.
Jimmy C. Couch, 37, of 1681 Poplar Springs Road, Liberty, was arrested at the intersection of Ky. 70 and Ky. 1649 after he tried to use the horse to run over an officer.
Couch is charged with operating a vehicle - not a motor vehicle, a horse - while under the influence of intoxicants; first-degree wanton endangerment for running through the general public; first-degree fleeing or evading a police officer; resisting arrest, and first-degree wanton endangerment for attempting to run over Roger Weddle, state Fish and Wildlife officer, according to a citation.
Casey County Deputy Sheriff Chad Weddle said he noticed the horse Couch was riding in the parade became a little jumpy. Weddle asked the rider to step off the horse but he refused and took off on the horse down Hustonville Street to Fair Street and on to U.S. 127 Bypass. The horse turned on Ky. 70 and was finally apprehended at the intersection of Ky. 1649.
