Carolyn S. Durham

Carolyn Smithson Durham, 90, of Ben Ali Drive, died Thursday at McDowell Place of Danville.

Born May 3, 1914, in Hopkinsville, she was the daughter of the late Dennis Fielder and Daisy A. Gardner Smithson. She was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church since 1937 and was a church historian. She had been a partner with her husband in Durham & Durham Insurance and Real Estate Co. She was a graduate of University of Kentucky and Bethel College. She was a former Jennie Rogers Elementary School PTA president, and a former state president and member of PEO. She was the widow of John L. "Jack" Durham Jr.

Survivors include two sons, Roger D. Durham of McKinleyville, Calif., and John L. "Cubby" Durham of Danville; and three grandchildren.

A memorial service will be 4 p.m. Sunday at Centenary United Methodist Church.

Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. Sunday at Stith Funeral Home.


Memorials may go to Centenary United Methodist Church, Boyle County Public Library or Heritage Hospice.

Norma J. Caton

ERLANGER - Norma Jean Caton, 72, died Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Edgewood. She was a retired treasurer for Michaels Art Bronze Co., a member of Erlanger Baptist Church and the widow of William C. Caton.

Survivors include her daughter, Deborah Onkst of Erlanger; three sisters, Melva Marshall of Roswell, Ga., Marian Steen of Louisville and Lucille Curtis of Danville; and two grandsons.

Services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be 2-5 p.m. Sunday at Linnemann Funeral Home.

Robert E. Hale

HARRODSBURG - Robert E. Hale, 69, of Lawrenceburg, formerly of Harrodsburg, husband of Virginia L. Hale, died Thursday at his home.

Arrangements are incomplete at Ransdell Funeral Chapel.

Beatrice Simms

NEW ALBANY, Ind. - L. Beatrice Simms, 96, died Wednesday at Providence Retirement Home in New Albany.

She was the daughter of the late Arlie and Laura Simms. She was a member of Walnut Street Baptist Church in Louisville, and a graduate of Cumberland and Georgetown colleges. She was a retired history teacher and had been dean of women at St. Mary's College in Maryland.

Survivors include a niece and nephews.

Services will be 11 a.m. Sunday at Kraft Funeral Home. Burial will be 2 p.m. Sunday in Spring Hill Cemetery, Harrodsburg.

Visitation will be 10:15-11 a.m. Sunday at Chapel of the Providence Retirement Home, 4915 Charlestown Road, New Albany.

Memorials may go to scholarship funds at Cumberland College, St. Mary's College or Georgetown College.

Calvin Walls

CRAB ORCHARD - Calvin Walls, 59, of Crab Orchard, died Thursday at his home.

Born Jan. 15, 1945, in Lincoln County, he was the son of the late Otis and Martha Hacker Walls. He was a retired painter for Engles Construction Co.

Survivors include his wife, Lena Mae Stokes Walls of Crab Orchard; two sons, Calvin D. Walls and Robert L. Walls, both of Lexington; a daughter, Sandra Brisson of Lexington; a sister, Shirley A. Adams of Danville; four brothers, Delbert Walls of Crab Orchard and Jimmy, Frankie and Johnny Walls, all of Danville; and four grandchildren.

Services will be noon Saturday at McKnight Funeral Home by the Rev. Bruce Taylor. Burial will be in Ephesus Baptist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be David Walls, Mickey Adams, Tommy Walls, Jimmy Walls, Brian Walls and Shane Fines.

Visitation will be after 10:30 a.m. Saturday.

Kathryn J. West

LANCASTER - Kathryn J. West, 83, of Woodstock, formerly of Lancaster, died Thursday at her home.

She was the widow of William H. West. Arrangements are incomplete at Spurlin Funeral Home


Grover Prewitt

HARRODSBURG - Services for Grover "Strut" Prewitt, 90, of Danville, will be private.

He died Thursday at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.

Born June 15, 1914, in Mercer County, he was a son of the late John S. and Onie Prewitt.

He was retired after 33 years with Palm Beach Co.

Survivors include a nephew, Albert Prewitt Jr. of Danville; and a niece, Gayle Prewitt of Harrodsburg.

Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Jayden Puckett

Graveside services for Jayden Puckett were today at Junction City Cemetery by the Rev. Barry Harmon.

He died Monday at Central Baptist Hospital.

He was the son of Cassie Jo Manning of Danville and Larry Elmer Puckett III of Richmond.

Other survivors include his grandparents, Larry Puckett Jr. of Irvine and Leslie I. and George W. Manning of Danville; and great-grandparents, Bill and Loretta Burchett of Junction City.
