Will cast first-ever vote for John Kerry

October 01, 2004

Dear Editor:

This is my first-ever letter and it likely will be my last. On Nov. 2, I will vote in my first-ever presidential election. I don't claim to know a lot about politics, I don't claim to know a lot about John Kerry. But I have had nearly four years now to know about George Bush. I know that under his "rule," I am living worse than I did under Bill Clinton. I'm making less money while the cost of living has gone way up.

I know that Bush has us in a nasty war in Iraq that should never have been. I know Bush has no plan to win that war. I know he has spent nearly $300 billion dollars on that war. I know that Bush told us three different lies as to why he took us to war in Iraq and sadly I know that well over a thousand of our troops have died in the sand of Iraq.

I know Bush lies to us about the economy getting better. I ask when and for whom?

I know that Bush uses terrorism as a political ploy. I know that he has not kept the promises he made in 2000. I know Bush has flip-flopped on everything from No Child Left Behind to links between al-Qaida and Saddam.

I know that Bush used the power of his father to avoid Vietnam. John Kerry didn't. He was in combat while George Bush was AWOL from his Guard event.

I know Bush has given us the largest deficit in our history and plans to add 3 trillion dollars in new spending. I ask, how long can this nation remain solvent when we continue to spend far more than we earn? And I know that Bush has spent 44 percent of his time in office on vacation.

Enough said. I will cast my first-ever vote for John Kerry.
