PERRYVILLE - A revival of "Sweet City Woman" is on tap during the Battle of Perryville Re-enactment and Commemoration Weekend.
Playwright and director Roy Milburn said the play was performed a few years ago, and because the experience was fun, decided to bring it back this year.
The play takes place four or five days after the Battle of Perryville, when the town is inundated with dying soldiers. John Burton's general store is about to run out of goods because people are stealing or charging the wares. He is busy burying the dead.
His wife, Mary, receives a letter from her sister, Dorothy Limestone, who has moved to Lexington, married, and become affluent. Dorothy plans on visiting. Mary mentions to her husband that perhaps they could get a loan from her well-to-do sister, but John is too proud for such a request. Additionally, he thinks she is a snob because she has done so well for herself.
