HUSTONVILLE - Former Assistant Fire Chief David Couch has been named the city's new fire chief. His appointment was approved by the City Council Tuesday.
Couch replaces longtime Fire Chief Fred McCoy, who had resigned from his position with the city fire department.
"It was just time to let somebody else do it," McCoy said, adding it was a privilege and honor to have served the city for nine years.
McCoy turned in his fire department resignation in early September but is retaining his position as police chief.
Couch said he has had plenty of help in assuming his new role with the department, and both men agreed the transition was a smooth one.
Couch, owner of D&J's service station in Hustonville, has served with the Hustonville Fire Department for two years. He oversees 17 firefighters.
