Support Breast Cancer Awareness Month

October 07, 2004

Dear Editor:

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Main Street programs from across the country are teaming up with breast cancer organizations to raise awareness and funds to combat this terrible disease. Your local Main Street program, the Heart of Danville, has partnered with the Boyle County Health Department, the Central Kentucky Cancer Coalition, the Lincoln County Health Department and the Ephraim McDowell Foundation to "Paint the Town Pink" with a series of breast cancer awareness activities in both Boyle and Lincoln counties.

Several activities planned in Danville during the month of October to commemorate Breast Cancer Awareness, including:

* Every Tuesday in October, Subway will donate 10 percent of all sales to the Central Kentucky Cancer Coalition.

* On Oct. 30, Impressions by BJ will hold a cut-a-thon. Haircuts are $15 with all proceeds going to the Central Kentucky Cancer Coalition.

* Tara's Uniforms on Main Street will make a donation to the cancer coalition for every special uniform commemorating breast cancer that is sold.

I encourage everyone to support these activities and businesses. It takes all of us to make a difference and to finally put this terrible disease to rest!
