Corbin tops Casey 41-19

October 10, 2004

LIBERTY - Marcus Patterson's 90-yard kickoff return enabled host Casey County to tie Corbin 7-7 early in the first quarter Friday. However, the rest of the quarter belonged to the visiting Redhounds.

Corbin scored 34 more points in the first quarter and settled for a 41-19 win over Casey.

"The biggest thing was that we couldn't stop Corbin in the first quarter," Casey coach Andy Stephens said. "They were 7-for-7 passing for 149 yards and ran for 109 yards, all in the first quarter. They were scoring every two or three plays.

"After that Corbin played its JV team the second quarter and used a lot of freshmen in the second half. Our young players did well at times against their young players."

Patterson caught a scoring pass from Kyle Long in the third period and scored on a run in the fourth quarter to account for the rest of the scoring for Casey (0-7, 0-1 Class AA, District 4).

"We just were not competitive early, and we've got to get that fixed now if we want to make the playoffs," Stephens said.
