Herb Brock needs to stick with political humor. His "unquestionable" comments on Iraq miss the mark.
If the coalition had withdrawn the troops in record time after the overthrow of Saddam, Iraq would have been left in an immediate power vacuum. This would surely have led to the civil war that he now thinks is more likely than a democratic government.
Brock says that money budgeted for Iraq should be "applied to Afghanistan, the war on terror and homeland security." Just how would he describe AI-Zarqawi and the barbarians murdering Americans and other innocent civilians if not as terrorists? The idea, repeated often by John Kerry and other Democrats, that the war on terror can be separated neatly from Iraq is a delusion. The "insurgents" or "rebels" (the media doesn't like to call them terrorists) are trying everything to get the United States and other nations to back down in Iraq. They think nothing of killing Muslims, Arabs, Iraqis, civilians, women, children, etc. if it creates chaos and fear that will cause the world to abandon the mission in Iraq. The terrorists know the stakes of this fight, even if many Americans don't want to acknowledge them. When we abandon the fight (remember "Black Hawk Down" in Somalia?), the terrorists are strengthened.
