Danville Legion post starts charity drive

American Legion Post 46 in Danville has started its food, clothes and toy drive to continue through December. Drop off times are Mondays and Thursdays, 4:30 - 7 p.m. at the post, located at 45 Spears Lane.

Estate planning, retirement seminars on tap

Two free seminars will be offered on estate planning and retirement at the Boyle County Cooperative Extension Service Office, 446 N. Danville Bypass.


The estate planning seminar will be 6:30 to 8:45 p.m. Tuesday. The speakers will be attorney Vince Pennington, Alan Turbyfill of Kentucky Trust Co. and Jon Meyer of Robinson Hughes & Christopher.

They will discuss wills, how to distribute heirlooms, power of attorney, guardianship, living wills, trust as part of tax strategy and/or vehicles for charitable giving, role of trusts in estate planning, using trusts for professional asset management, tax considerations for estate and inheritance, and other topics

The retirement seminar is 6:30 to 8:45 p.m. Oct. 26. The speakers will be University of Kentucky specialist Sue Badenhop, Edward Jones Investment representative Joe Bunch, and Farm Bureau Insurance adviser Todd Tiller.

They will discuss how to have money when you retire, estimating expenses, creating a personalized income plan, investments in difficult times, tax deferral, long-term health care-costs, and other topics.

Lincoln offers smoking cessation classes

If you are thinking about quitting smoking, the Lincoln County Health Dept. is starting a smoking cessation class for anyone living or working in the county. They are providing patches or gum for anyone that takes part in the support group class. The last day to join is Tuesday.

Danville kids' choir to perform

The Danville Children's Choir fall concert will be 7 p.m. Monday at Lexington Avenue Baptist Church.


Casey County Extension District Board - 8 a.m. Tuesday at the county extension service office on U.S. 127 South. Note the change in time and date.

Boyle County Parks and Recreation Board - 4 p.m. Wednesday at city hall.

Boyle County Board of Education - 7 p.m. Thursday at high school library, preceded by a working session with architect at 6 p.m.
