Dear Editor:
With all of this hullabaloo going on about the state insurance program and the city and county not having enough money to support certain programs that help our senior citizens and lower-income families, there are some of us who would like to make some suggestions about how we can cut some of the fat from their budgets.
We need to allow each and every city commissioner and the magistrates to pay their own insurance, and please don't tell me it is already in the budget for the year because what was put in can be taken out.
We did have an offer from a few local officials to pay their own insurance if it became an issue. Well, when the payment for just one of the local officials is thousands of dollars, then it becomes a big issue for all of the working people who have to pay their own. With what the governor is trying to do to our retirees, teachers, and state workers, someone needs to step up to the plate and take responsibility for their own insurance costs and put the savings back into the city and county budgets.
