Centre sweeps Sunday matches

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - Centre College scored three-game victories over Sewanee and Oglethorpe Sunday in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Volleyball East Divisional here Sunday.

The Colonels (21-8) had lost to DePauw in five games Saturday to open the tourney. They came back to beat host Rose-Hulman in four games in Saturday's second match.

Centre dominated play Sunday.

"Everybody on the team played in both matches," said coach Stephanie Dragan. "Nothing pleases a coach more than when everyone can produce."

Centre beat Sewanee 30-10, 30-7, 30-27. Dragan said Leah Ballinger "did a great job distributing the ball" as she had 39 assists in the victory.


Sarah Burger had 15 kills and Whitney Faust 10. Kate Bennett had five blocks and four service aces while Faust also had four blocks in the victory.

Megan McElveen had 11 digs and four aces while Ellie Exner had nine digs and two aces.

Oglethorpe fell 30-18, 30-17, 30-16 to Centre in the second match.

Burger, a freshman, had 14 kills.

"We moved her outside the third game of both matches and she really produced. She is just doing an amazing job and really frustrating opponents," Dragan said.

Bennett had 10 kills, three blocks and two aces while Ballinger had 29 assists. McElveen had 10 digs and four aces while Exner added six digs. Reserve Shannon Stribos had three blocks.
