The Danville Lions Club is about to hold its 54th annual Radio/TV Auction. The money raised is used to pay for glasses and exams for needy residents of Boyle County.
When city budget news was the hot topic of discussion, we got to hear how the city needed to pass the cost or "burden" of assisting people to others rather than taking funds from the city budget. The Lions Club is one of those organizations that does exactly that. We asked the city for use of the old Save-a-lot building as our auction headquarters for 10 days. People buying things would come to this location to pick up items purchased at our auction. We felt having an in-town location with parking was ideal. Four of the five commissioners voted to not allow our community organization to utilize this space. It would seem that if the commission wants others to help provide for the needs of our community, the least they could do would be to assist organizations that are trying to do just that.
