As a practicing physician, I wish to salute Dr. Daniel Mongiardo on his determination to care for the people of Kentucky by attending four years of college, four years of medical school, and a residency to become a specialist in ear, nose, and throat surgery. I was especially impressed when he decided to take time away from his practice to serve the people of Eastern Kentucky as well as his patients.
However, he turned his back on the citizens of Kentucky and his fellow practicing physicians when he did not support medical tort reform. After he voted against SB1 (the first step for medical malpractice reform), I wrote Dr. Mongiardo. His response was one that I could not agree with. It appears he is supported by those interests who wish to benefit from more malpractice suits. His voting against SB1 has contributed to the malpractice crisis, which has forced physicians out of practice and out of Kentucky.
