Our Danville citizens are truly fortunate that we have so many people willing to devote time, energy and financial resources to run for elective office. Our just completed city commissioner race is a fine example of citizens demonstrating their concern for how this community is to be governed.
I congratulate the winners but thank all of the candidates for your participation in this much-needed civic effort. You spent countless hours answering questions from the public, you walked the sidewalks to visit with your fellow citizens, and you invested your time and your money so we could base our voting decision on what you believed.
You sent a fine example to our young people demonstrating what responsibilities are needed in this country if we are to maintain a democratic free society we have enjoyed. It comes with a price and we owe those of you who run for office our grateful thanks.
