Burkhart named director of surgical services at Fort Logan Hospital

STANFORD - America Burkhart, a registered nurse, has been hired as director of surgical services at Fort Logan Hospital.

Burkhart previously had worked at Fort Logan Hospital for 12 years, including four years in surgery. She graduated in 1996 from the Danville School of Health Occupations as a licensed practical nurse and earned an associate's degree from St. Catharine College in 1997. She received her bachelor's degree in nursing from Eastern Kentucky University in 2001.

Burkhart began her career in health care as a certified nurse's assistant at Fort Logan Hospital. She also worked as a clerk in diagnostic imaging and as an Emergency Room tech before joining the surgery department.

She worked at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center from 2000 until accepting the position as director of surgical services at Fort Logan.


Burkhart lives in Waynesburg with her two children, Joshua, 20, and Sheila, 13.

Shell named manager of Liberty plant of Warner Fertilizer

LIBERTY - Vester Shell has been named manager at the Liberty plant of Warner Fertilizer Company.

Shell has been in the agricultural business for the past 27 years and has served as assistant manager and manager of fertilizer and crop-care facilities. Prior to coming to Liberty, Shell worked at the company's Stanford location.

He was born and raised in Casey County. He lives in Yosemite with his wife, Nancy. They have one daughter, Amy.

Edmundson opens embroidery business

Burneva Edmundson has opened a home-based business, Sew Bee It Embroidery, in Boyle County.

She originally started the business in California but returned to the area in 2003 to be close to her family and grandchildren.

Her office and shop are in her home at 120 Chandler Drive in Shelby Green subdivision. She has Tajima embroidery equipment, has more than 30,000 stock designs and does in-house digitizing. There is no set-up fee for stock designs and no minimum order fee. All of the work is done in-house.

Jackson promoted at Northpoint

Don Jackson of Hustonville has been promoted to the position of correctional captain II at Northpoint Training Center.

He began his employment at Northpoint as a correctional officer in 1985, was promoted to correctional sergeant in 1991, to correctional lieutenant in 1992 and to correctional captain I in 2003.

Country Hearth Inns in Danville and Harrodsburg have received the Excellence in Quality Assurance Award for the second year in a row.

The Harrodsburg Country Hearth Inn is a 40-room hotel at 105 Commercial Drive.

The hotel is owned and operated by Mita and Nate Patel of Shri Shakti Corporation.
