DHS to host graduation for veterans

The Danville schools will conduct a special graduation for World War II veterans at the 7 p.m. Nov. 18 board meeting at Danville High School.

To publicly honor those who sacrificed and contributed to the country's defense in time of war, the board will award honorary high school diplomas to honorably discharged veterans who did not complete their high school education to serve in the war efforts.

The veterans must be honorably discharged and served in the military during World War II or the Korean War. Family members of deceased veterans may request an honorary diploma be awarded posthumously in the veteran's honor. Verification is needed of honorable discharge and school enrollment. A copy of discharge papers or proof of veteran benefits plus information on the last school attended is required.

Send information along with name, address and telephone number to Veteran Graduation c/o Danville Board of Education, 152 E. Martin Luther King Boulevard, Danville 40422 by Nov. 18.

Liberty board grants variance

LIBERTY - A variance was granted Thursday to a local property owner who plans to sell the property, according to City Clerk Sharleen Rodgers.

Jerry Hoskins, who bought a house and lot on Wolford and Montgomery streets, had requested the city Planning and Zoning Commission to be allowed to sell the house and a portion of the lot, but the lot did not meet specifications and the matter was passed to the Board of Adjustments.

The board gave Hoskins a 3-foot variance instead of the 8-foot clearance on one side of the lot that he had requested.

The board also accepted the resignation of member Tracey Rodenbach, who is moving out of state.
