Playoff Highlights

November 14, 2004

A look at Friday's high school playoff highlights:

* Danville running back Kelvin Turner scored twice Friday in a 20-6 win over Bardstown to raise his career touchdown total to 110 and needs two more to tie the state's all-time leader, Derek Homer of Fort Knox.

He had 16 touchdowns (12 rushing, four receiving) in 2001, 27 touchdowns (23 rushing, three receiving, two defensive) in 2002 and 30 touchdowns (27 rushing, three defensive) in 2003. He has 37 this year.

He also went over 2,000 yards rushing for the second straight year, the first time an area player has done that. He has 2,191 yards rushing this season and 6,706 in his career.

* Boyle County quarterback Brandon Smith became the 11th player in state history to reach 8,000 yards passing when he threw for 202 yards and three scores in a 55-10 win over Waggener. He now has 8,143 yards passing and 109 touchdown passes in his career.

* Garrard County quarterback Spencer Crutchfield finished his season with 1,197 yards rushing and 2,111 yards passing after he was hurt in the first half of a 47-18 loss to Elizabethtown. He accounted for 34 touchdowns this season.

* Boyle's Seth Tamme had the area's first 200-yard receiving game this season when he caught six passes for 204 yards and three touchdowns against Waggener.

"We really like the way we are playing right now. If we can just correct a few more things, then I really believe we can win another state title," Boyle tight end-linebacker Evan Teague.
