With Joe Nemechek

Q & A

November 16, 2004

Driver Joe Nemechek offers these insights into his personality in this question-and-answer with sports editor Larry Vaught:

1. What is your favorite sport to watch on TV?

"That's a tough one. Man, we watch so much stuff. We watch a lot of racing. We race, so that's what we watch. It just depends on what sports are playing. We watch them all: baseball, football, basketball. We are just like any other fans. Whatever sport is on, that's our favorite that day."

2. Are most NASCAR drivers also college sports fans?

"There are some rivalries there. Sterling Marlin pulls for Tennessee. Everybody pulls for where they grew up. Being from Florida, I have to pull for Florida. There is a little talk. It just depends on what is going on because we watch it all."

3. Who is your favorite country music singer?

"It's hard to pick just one. I have got to meet so many of them. I got to meet Charlie Daniels back in 2000 and 2001. What an awesome guy. I went to dinner with him and he got a guitar from one of the guys in the restaurant and he just started playing tunes. I like Trace Adkins. Toby Keith. There are so many of them. There are a lot I am not mentioning, but a lot come to the races. NASCAR and country music are big together. It's too hard to just pick one. I like listening to Montgomery Gentry, too. We have so many country singers come to races. It's neat listening to their music."

4. What do you think of Krista Voda, the former WLEX-TV sports anchor who now hosts Totally NASCAR on Fox Sports?

"She does an awesome job. I know I have done some interviews with her that I enjoyed. Awesome lady. She's very nice looking lady and we all like to see her come to the track. She's fun to be around."

5. What's the best part of your job?

"I have a lot of jobs. It is hard to pick just one part. What I love to do is just get behind that steering wheel and drive. But meeting fans and the people that make our sport what it is is really neat for myself. This year getting to meet the soldiers, all the men and women who fought for our freedom and freedom of this country, has been really neat."

6. Which driver do you enjoy racing against the most?

"You can't just pick one. I race them all hard. You get to learn what everybody does a little different. I have had a lot of battles with Mark Martin over the years. One thing I can see about him is that he races you hard, but he races you clean. He has been a lot of fun to race with. There have been a lot of other ones, too, but Mark when you talk about races and battles you have side by side, he would be right there on the top of my list to race against."
