HUSTONVILLE - A man accused of a brutal assault was shot Monday by his victim after allegedly returning to the scene of the crime.
Lester C. Propes, 27, of 45 Sunset Boulevard, Hustonville, was arrested at approximately 1:30 a.m. Monday on charges of second-degree assault, second-degree burglary and violation of an emergency protection order.
Propes pleaded not guilty Monday in Lincoln Circuit Court with a bullet still in his left shoulder. He had been treated and released after his arrest early that morning.
State Police Trooper Bill Collins reported that Propes entered the residence at 45 Sunset Boulevard shortly after midnight. At that time he reportedly used a large wooden club to severely beat Del Warner, 35, a man found in the house with a woman who has an EPO against Propes. Propes "hit the victim about his head, face, side and back several times. The victim has injuries to his nose, ribs and face," say police reports.
