Jeanne Switzer, a counselor at Woodlawn Elementary School, was named Elementary Counselor of the Year by the Kentucky Counseling Association at the recent convention in Louisville.
The award by peers recognizes professional excellence both for accomplishments on the job and for service to the professional as a volunteer leader.
"We are very happy for Jeanne to be recognized by her peers as Counselor of the Year," said Woodlawn Elementary Principal Sharon Crews. "This award affirms the high regard she has won in the professional community, a reputation drawn from years of service to colleagues and children. This announcement, on the threshold of her retirement at the end of December, should provide a lasting comfort as she looks back at the contributions she has made."
During her 30-year-career, Switzer has served as counselor at the Danville Youth Development Center as well as at Perryville and Woodlawn elementary schools. For seven years she served as treasurer for the Kentucky School Counselor Association and was a board member for 10 years. In 1999, she received the KSCA Linda Morse Leadership Award.
