The family of a missing Moreland girl celebrated Thanksgiving with a true reason for gratitude after the return of their missing 12-year-old.
Amanda Abshear, originally from Moreland, had been reported missing Nov. 14 after she walked away from her Lexington residential care center, the Florence Crittenton Home, where she had been placed by the state.
On Wednesday, Amanda called Louisville police from a pay phone there and was later allowed by social services to call her mother.
"Best Thanksgiving I've had. I felt that I had something more to be thankful for," said mother Teresa Pike. "I can't begin to even tell you. I felt like I was a balloon and somebody had stuck a pin in me and let all the air out."
