Mercer woman arrested on contraband charge
HARRODSBURG - Deputy Sheriffs Haley McMullin and Patrick Branham intercepted contraband Thursday morning that was wrapped in electrical tape and hidden in some fast food that a visitor had brought for a prisoner in lock down.
Melissa Buck, 25, of Salvisa, was detained at the jailer's office for questioning.
Various narcotic pills and suspected marijuana were recovered. Deputy Chris Kehrt was summoned from the Mercer District Court to charge the suspect.
Buck is charged with trafficking controlled substances and promoting contraband, both in the first degree.
Sheriff Ralph Anderson said that prisoners often insert such items in body cavities and then enter detention facilities and release the items for personal use and/or sale to other prisoners.
