The Centre College music program will present a free concert featuring the Centre College Orchestra with conductor Steven Pederson at 3 p.m. today in the Audrey R. Gillespie Recital Hall on campus.
The 26-member student orchestra will perform works by Bach, Corelli, Grieg, Prokofieff, and others. Featured soloists include Candace Davis, Leslie Hast and Matt Lane.
Conductor Pederson is in his second year as the orchestra director and clarinet/oboe teacher at Centre College. He has conducted the West Virginia Chamber Orchestra, the Monroe Symphony Orchestra, the Conway Orchestra and the University of Kansas Contemporary Ensemble. Pederson received his B.M.E. degree in music education from Wartburg College, his M.A. degree in clarinet performance from the University of Iowa, and he has completed the course work for the D.M.A. degree in conducting from the University of Kansas. Pederson has completed two music conducting and pedagogy text books.
The music program at Centre offers music scholarships to students who show outstanding promise in music, regardless of intended major.
