Casey's Gateway Park gets additional land

December 07, 2004

LIBERTY - The Gateway Park Inc. has agreed to deed a small tract of land within the park to Casey Fiscal Court.

County Judge-Executive Ronald Wright said Monday the land is on the south side of the park and includes half of a Little League softball field.

After this deed was approved, the entire park is owned by the county.

The Catholic Archdiocese of Louisville gave the park to the county a few weeks ago.

The court also approved a $14 check for recording the deed for the additional park land.

Wright said the next step is to appoint a new park board. "I think we need between five and seven members."

He wants to appoint the board, then allow the board to appoint subcommittees to oversee building and grounds, concessions, ball park, community center and budget matters.

The subcommittees will report to the park board, which will report to Fiscal Court.

"This way we can get several people involved to keep us aware of the needs so we can help," Wright said.

Wright told the magistrates to think about the board members because the old board will be dissolved after the new board is in place. Current members may be reappointed.
