LANCASTER - The man who was fatally shot Saturday in Garrard County by a state trooper may be identified by a family member today.
Trooper Chris Lanham with the Kentucky State Police said a brother is on his way from Phoenix, Ariz. "It just depends on how long it takes him to get here before we can release the information after we get a positive identification," Lanham said.
State police say the suspect brandished a knife and tried to stab Trooper Sonny Dunaway outside a Garrard County residence.
Dunaway shot and killed the man after he fled the scene of a traffic stop at 7:33 p.m. Saturday and where he attempted to take a female hostage
The man was pronounced dead at 8:27 p.m. at the scene in the Cartersville area, which is southwest of Berea.
