Kelley, Rhodus win contest

December 24, 2004

Justin Kelley of Hustonville and Daniel Rhodus of Lancaster tied for first place in this week's Hometown Tire Beat the Experts Basketball Contest.

Kelley and Rhodus had two of the three entries with 10 games right, and they were exactly the same number of points removed from the actual score of the Providence-Memphis tiebreaker game. Each of them will receive a four-wheel alignment, tire rotation and wheel balancing from Hometown Tire of Danville.

Kelley and Rhodus are now both also eligible for the season-ending grand prize contest that offers a $250 gift certificate good for any service or product at Danville's Hometown Tire.

The pickings were easier in this week's contest, which ended early because there are no games on Christmas. (All of the games were played Thursday night.)

Vicki Spears led the panel of experts with nine games right, but five contestants with nine right beat her on the tiebreaker. Nearly two-thirds of the entries had eight or more correct choices, and all but four had at least seven.

Those who beat the best expert to win a free tire rotation from Hometown Tire were:

Ten: Kenny Floyd, Stanford.

Nine: Al Atmore, Danville; Norman Bartleson, Danville; Michael Bottom, Harrodsburg; Danny Strevels, Stanford; and W.A. Young, Mitchellsburg.

The contest returns to its regular entry deadline of noon Friday next week. The entry form for next week's contest will be on Page B2 of Sunday's The Kentucky Advocate.
