CYNTHIANA - Derrick Lang of Danville was named the most valuable wrestler at the Harrison County Invitational, and Lang and Dylan Hester finished first in their weight classes to help Danville to a third-place finish.
Lang won three closely contested matches in the 171-pound class, while Hester went 4-0 at 135 pounds.
Danville finished two points behind runner-up Holmes and 43 behind Harrison in the team standings.
"It was a great team effort," Danville coach Jeff Selby said.
Chris Booth (140 pounds) and Philip Mathis (160) were second in their classes, and freshman Jeremy Turner made his best tournament showing by placing third at 103. Matt Booth (152) and Jason Claude (275) were fourth.
Lang jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead over Bryce Barrientos of Fort Knox in his championship match, then pinned him in the closing seconds of the second period. Hester scored his third pin in four matches by stopping Ryan Gibson of Western Hills 92 seconds into the match.
