The Admirals won on a night when the school retired the No. 23 jersey worn by 1970 graduate Leonard Coulter. Just a few minutes after Coulter, his coach and teammates left the floor, the Ads raced to a 15-2 lead by forcing eight Casey turnovers in the first 61/2 minutes.
Casey (2-12, 0-3) got back in the game in the second half, closing to within eight points three times before Danville sent the Rebels to their sixth straight loss and their 10th loss in its last 11 meetings against Danville.
Another shaky night at the free throw line
The Admirals closed out Casey by hitting seven of 11 shots from the field in the fourth quarter - they shot 40 percent overall - and despite another shaky night at the free-throw line, where they were 11-for-21 in the final period and 22-for-41 overall.
"Our free-throw shooting continues to be horrendous, and we've got to improve that," Pippen said.
Eric Caldwell led Danville with 16 points, including 12 in the second half. Ronnie Haw-kins had 10 points of his 14 points in the second quarter, and Ryan Harper added 13 points.
Harper and Darius Baugh-man had eight rebounds each to help the Admirals dominate the boards, where they outrebounded Casey 44-30.
Casey shot 37 percent (15-for-41) from the field but had 27 turnovers.
Charlie Fox fueled the Rebels' rally by scoring eight of his team-high 10 points in the second half.
