Girl Scout council names fund development director

February 02, 2005

The Girl Scouts-Wilderness Road Council has named Ginny Eager as of fund development director. A native of eastern Kentucky, Eager joins the council after 20 years of service as executive director of Forward in the Fifth, a nonprofit organization working to improve schools in eastern and southern Kentucky.

"Eager's strong ties to eastern and central Kentucky are a good match with our goal of expanding the reach and funding of Girl Scouts throughout the 57 county service area of the Wilderness Road Council," said executive director Anne Weston.

Currently, the council serves more than 25,000 girls and spends $153 per girl to offer programs, camps and travel opportunities.

"I'm very excited to be working for Girl Scouts-Wilderness Road Council," said Eager. "I think it is very important to help young women gain the skills necessary to be successful at life. I believe Girl Scouts is one of the best ways to do that. By working to help young women gain important skills, we are ultimately building a better world."

Eager will do a variety of fundraising activities - seeking grants and donations from individuals and businesses and sponsoring fundraising events - designed to provide for the fiscal sustainability of the council's programs and services for girls.

"Many people think our cookie sale pays for all that we offer our Girl Scouts, but this is not the case," Eager pointed out. "Often we have programs and specific activities that are funded by grants or corporate sponsors. Cookie sales provide 65 percent the funding necessary for all the programs sponsored by the Council."

The United Way provides 11 percent. All other funds must be raised from the community, especially for our outreach programs which benefit girls not in traditional troops.

Eager brings experience with Girl Scouting to the organization. She was a troop leader for more than six years for her daughter's troop. She was also a Brownie Girl Scout as a girl.
