Lincoln health department not concerned about residents

February 08, 2005

Dear Editor:

I am a former resident of River Crest subdivision in Lincoln County. I moved from that location in October. Actually, I was evicted because I refused to make my house payment for the month of September due to the problems that we were having with sewage.

I relocated to this area from Taylor County because I was promoted to a new job. After speaking with Mr. (Bill) Blankenship (subdivision developer), I was convinced that this property would be a wonderful place to raise my three children. I moved in in April. After about two weeks, I started to complain about the problems that we were having with the sewage and the smell. I was assured that something would be done.

Mr. Blankenship had someone who was supposed to pump the septic tanks once a week. Unfortunately, that did not happen. After several months of complaining to Mr. Blankenship and to the company that pumped the tanks, I contacted the Lincoln County Health Department. I left message after message with no response.

I was finally told that if I did not like where I was living, I could move. So I refused to pay the $695 payment for the month of September. When I explained to Mr. Blankenship that I wasn't going to pay because he wouldnt take care of the problem, he told me that he would evict me. That is exactly what he did. I appeared in court in October and was told that i had to move. So I was out well over $3,000 and I had to come up with expenses to move my family again.

It is so good to know that the health department was really concerned for our health. Remind me not to recommend the Lincoln County Health Department, because they really aren't concerned about the health of Lincoln County residents.
