I read with some concern the letter written by Georgette Sims on Feb. 28 taking to task the House and Senate for their lack of caring exhibited toward retired teachers.
Fortunately, the budget has passed the House and the Senate, and it now goes to conference committee. This budget includes funding for retired teachers' benefits for the next 10 years! We are most grateful to our state representative, Mike Harmon, and our state senator, Tom Buford, and we have expressed our gratitude by sending local Boyle County Retired Teachers Association representatives to the Retired Teachers Day held in Frankfort and by sending letters and e-mails to them personally.
I hope Mr. Harmon and Mr. Buford will visit one of our meetings soon so we can let them know how much we appreciate their hard work on our behalf.
