Free glucose screenings offered

Ephraim McDowell Health will offer free glucose screenings from 8:30-11 a.m. Tuesday at MedSource, 326 W. Walnut St., adjacent to the hospital.

Appointments are not necessary. The screenings consist of a finger stick to test an individual's blood sugar levels, which can indicate if an individual has diabetes or is at risk of developing diabetes.

Health programs set at hospital

Two broadcasts are scheduled at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.

* 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, the National Multiple Sclerosis Society will host a broadcast from the McDowell room at the hospital. The public is invited. To register, call (859) 239-1617.

* 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. March 18, a program on Tourette's Syndrome will be provided through the UK Telehealth Network in the Jane Todd Crawford room. The public is invited. No need to sign up.

Wilson appointed to board

Danville City Commission appointed Betsy Wilson to replace Tom Broach on the Board of Adjustments Monday. Broach stepped down because of health problems, Mayor John W.D. Bowling said.

Mercer to break ground for house

HARRODSBURG - Habitat for Humanity Mercer County will hold a groundbreaking ceremony for the Sherry Johnson family at 5 p.m. Sunday at 607 Dove Court in Quail Run subdivision.

In case of rain, the service will be at the New Life Ministries Church, 205 Morris Drive.

Casey to discuss goat organization

LIBERTY - A meeting is scheduled at 6:30 p.m. March 15 at Gateway Park to discuss establishing an organization on goat production.

The 4-H'ers are planning to start a goat club and will be included in the organization.

The group will have information on goat production for people in the county who raise goats.

White dogwood trees available

Ten free white flowering dogwood trees will be given to each person who joins The National Arbor Day Foundation this month.

The free trees are part of the nonprofit Foundation's Trees for America campaign.

The trees will be shipped postpaid at the right time for planting between now and May 31 with enclosed planting instructions. The 6- to 12-inch trees are guaranteed to grow or will be replaced free of charge.

To become a member of the foundation and receive the free trees, send a $10 contribution to Ten Free Dogwood Trees, National Arbor Day Foundation, 100 Arbor Ave., Nebraska City, NE 68410, by March 31. Or go online to arborday.org.
