Mercer checking bidder on senior citizens day care center

March 09, 2005|ANN R. HARNEY

HARRODSBURG - The acceptance of a bid for the construction of a senior citizens' adult day care center has been delayed while the low bidder's references are checked.

Mercer County Judge-Executive John Trisler told members of the Mercer County Fiscal Court that there is a discrepancy in the history of the company.

Trisler said the senior citizens' board asked Fiscal Court to delay a decision until its next meeting while one of the jobs completed by Isaac Tatum Construction could be further investigated.

Trisler said it was a minor conflict in reporting that can easily be resolved. "We're not uncomfortable at all with Isaac Tatum Construction," he said. "We would support the company (getting the contract) if everything checks out."

The judge-executive started his explanation as to why the court was not going to be asked to approve a bid by saying the court has received five valid bids and governments usually accept the lowest bid, which came from Isaac Tatum Construction.

The Lebanon company's bid was $376,700 for the center to be built as an addition to the Mercer County Senior Citizens Center on U.S. 127 north adjacent to Anderson-Dean Community Park.
