On the smoking-ban issue, think of the children

March 13, 2005

Dear Editor:

Why should those who chose not to smoke be subjected to it so that those who do smoke can have their freedom?

The plain truth is in this world there is no way you can please everyone. When it comes to health, I think that the government may need to step in and make some rules.

There are many people in this world who have a high allergy to cigarette smoke, my two-year-old being one of them. If we are out in public and have a run in with a lit cigarette, her nose immediately begins to run and she is up all night, not able to sleep due to the effects a cigarette had on her. She is miserable. It is very sad to see a two-year-old this way and to know that it isn't her choice only makes it worse.

I am sure everyone has their own opinions on cigarettes. We really need to think of the health of our children. I personally hate to see mine suffer from the effects that someone else's habit has on her.
